When Douglass visited Talbot County in 1878, he stayed here. The hotel was one of the earliest buildings in the center of Easton. When Douglass was imprisoned in Easton in 1836 for his attempted escape, the hotel was the main view from his cell. Slave traders often stayed at the hotel.
