With bluegill, crappie, chain pickerel, largemouth bass, northern pike, smallmouth bass, white perch, yellow perch and carp on the menu, there is someone for every fly fisher at the Loch Raven Reservoir in Baltimore County. In addition to shoreline fishing and access to a pier, the Loch Raven Fishing Center provides boat launch access to the entire 1,600-acre reservoir. Given the amount of shoreline just waiting to be fished, you could return each season of the year and catch multiple different species. Located just off Interstate 695 north of Baltimore, this Trail site is readily accessible and just waiting to be experienced.

How to Get There
From Interstate 695/Baltimore Beltway, exit onto Route 146/Dulaney Valley Road heading north. Continue on Dulaney Valley Road for several miles. Once you have crossed the bridge over Loch Raven Reservoir, look for the right turn into the Loch Raven Fishing Center in less than a mile at the blue sign.

Parking & Launching
Launching and docking permit is required to use this facility. The 2022 permits are already sold out and 2023 permits go on sale January 2023. Parking is located at the boat ramp on a paved lot. You can launch your boat using the Loch Raven Fishing Center's two concrete boat launch ramps. Only electric motors are allowed on the reservoir. Please note that in an effort to provide ready boating access to Loch Raven Reservoir, the parking and activities at the fishing center is limited to those with permits and are actively fishing. Therefore no picnicking, shoreline fishing or other "non-fishing center" related activities are permitted on the shore at the fishing center. Those wishing to pursue other recreational activities in and around the reservoir property are encouraged to park on Loch Raven Drive near Morgan Mill and Providence Roads for dawn to dusk parking being sure to adhere to all posted parking regulations.
Boat Rentals
Boats are available for rent from the Loch Raven Fishing Center.
Where to Fish
You will need a boat to fish the reservoir. Cast towards the shoreline, particularly where you see any visible structures in the water--branches, downed trees, lily pads, etc.

Bluegill, crappie, chain pickerel, largemouth bass, northern pike, smallmouth bass and white perch and yellow perch
What to Fish & How
Recommend bringing 6-8 weight fly rods with floating, intermediate and sink tip fly lines. For largemouth bass, recommend medium-sized poppers and floating frog patterns, Clouser minnows, and other minnow imitations. For perch, crappie and bluegills, recommend small poppers, wooly buggers, and insect patterns with rubber legs. For smallmouth bass and northern pike, recommend using large Clouser minnows, and other minnow imitations.
