Pocomoke River

Pocomoke River State Park

Tucked away on Maryland's lower eastern shore, Pocomoke River State Park is well known for cypress swamps that border the Pocomoke River. The river originates in the Great Cypress Swamp in Delaware and flows southwesterly 45 miles to the Chesapeake Bay. The park provides a base for a vast array of outdoor and tourist activities including fishing, biking, birding, boating, hiking and more. Amenities at the park include camping, mini cabins, boat launch, picnic areas, playgrounds, picnic shelters and a swimming pool. Both portions of the park are also centrally located within 18,000 acres of the Pocomoke State Forest and its vast trail system.

There are two distinct areas of Pocomoke River State Park: Shad Landing, on the south side of the river off Route 113, and Millburn Landing, on the north side of the Pocomoke River on Route 364. It is a 25-minute drive between the two areas of Pocomoke River State Park.

Cambridge Yacht Basin

Cambridge - Municipal Yacht Basin

This free fishing location in Cambridge, Maryland, spans from the south end of the city-owned bulkhead associated with the Municipal Yacht Basin within Cambridge Creek to the end of the east breakwater at the mouth of the Municipal Yacht Basin. Anglers can enjoy accessible and public fishing opportunities in this area, which offers a picturesque waterfront setting for recreational fishing activities.

 

Eastern Neck WREastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge

Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is a 2,285-acre island located at the confluence of the Chester River and the Chesapeake Bay in Kent County, Maryland.  Established in December 1962, the refuge is a major feeding and resting place for migratory and wintering waterfowl on Maryland’s famed “Eastern Shore.” The refuge holds the designation of Important Bird Areas by the Audubon Society. Over 240 species of birds and a variety of mammals, amphibians, and reptiles inhabit the island.

Fishing opportunities in the tidal, brackish waters of the Chesapeake Bay and Chester River are available at the Tundra Swan Boardwalk, Ingleside Recreation Area (April 1-September 30), Bogles Wharf and the bridge spanning the Eastern Neck Narrows. A boat ramp is available at Bogles Wharf (a Kent County trailer permit is required) and small watercraft may be launched by hand at the Ingleside Recreation Area. Maryland state fishing regulations apply.

Martinak State Park

Nestled along Watts Creek and the Choptank River, the park offers excellent camping and cabin facilities. Fishing and boating are popular activities for park users.  Bordered by the Choptank River and Watts Creek, this area supports a wide variety of plant and animal life. . Modern campsites and boating access are available. Amenities include hiking trails, playground, shelters and a nature center.  Pets are allowed in all areas of the park except the shelter and cabins.​​

A boat launch and a pier allow for easy accessibility to the waterways. Anglers will find excellent fishing with abundant catches of bass, perch, sunfish and catfish. A Chesapeake Bay Sportfishing License is required for fishing in the tidal waters of the river and creek.
