This Trail sites provides shoreline as well as boat-based fly fishing opportunities on the mid-Eastern Shore of Talbot County. The Black Walnut Point Fishing Area and Parking provides a place to cast and fish riprap on the Chesapeake Bay side of the point.  

Launching your boat in Dogwood Harbor immediately puts you in Harris Creek with direct access to the many other tidal creeks connecting into the lower Choptank River. With your sights set on catching some striped bass, bluefish, speckled trout and white perch, you will have plenty of productive waters to choose from. This Trail site also give you access via Knapps Narrows to Chesapeake Bay and more fly fishing opportunities around nearby Popular Island.

How to Get There

From Route 50 south heading towards Easton, Maryland on the Eastern Shore, turn right onto MD 322/Easton Parkway just as you are entering the City of Easton. Take a right turn onto MD 33/St. Michaels Road and continue on this road through St. Michaels, onto Tilghman Island to the Black Walnut Point Fishing Area and Parking area on your right.

To access the boat ramp at Dogwood harbor, from Route 50 south heading towards Easton, Maryland on the Eastern Shore, turn right onto MD 322/Easton Parkway just as you are entering the City of Easton. Take a right turn onto MD 33/St. Michaels Road and continue on this road through St. Michaels, onto Tilghman Island, taking a right turn on Dogwood Harbor Road which leads to the parking lot next to the boat ramp.

Parking & Launching

You can launch your boat at Dogwood Harbor Boat Ramp located at 21671 Dogwood Harbor Rd, Tilghman, MD 21671. The parking lot is paved with parking places for vehicles and boat trailers. There is a paved parking area for up to five cars at Black Walnut Point fishing area.

Powerboat and kayak rental available at Tilghman Island Marina.

Where to Fish

Fish riprap on the Bay side of the point either from boat or from shore or cast along the current break that forms directly south of the point.

What to Catch 

Striped bass, bluefish, speckled trout and white perch

What to Fish & How 

Recommend bringing 5 to 8 weight fly rods with floating, intermediate or sinking fly lines. Fly fish with no. 4 or no. 6 Clouser Minnows or shrimp patterns with 10'–12’ fluorocarbon leader on floating line or shorter leader with intermediate or sinking lines.
