Breaking the Back of Segregation Marker

This historic marker is located where the tennis courts were. It was erected to commemorate the efforts of 24 tennis players who organized integrated matches to challenge the "whites only" policy at the Druid Hill Park tennis courts in 1948.

This marker commemorates the spot where Henry G. Parks, Jr., entrepreneur and civil rights pioneer, founded the Parks Sausage Company in 1951. Parks built a facility that employed 270 workers while advancing integration and equity in the workplace.

Pearl Bailey Mural Project

This mural is painted on the Whitmore Parking Garage, which replaced 33 minority-owned businesses and many homes during efforts at urban renewal. This once-thriving block also had venues where artists such as Pearl Bailey performed.
